Vision
Mission
To provide high-quality education and training in various foreign languages through effective teaching methodologies and modern learning resources.
To enhance students’ communication skills, cultural understanding and global competency for academic and professional success.
To prepare learners for internationally recognised language proficiency examinations and career opportunities worldwide.
From the Head’s Desk
In today’s competitive environment, proficiency in foreign languages is not merely an additional skill but a valuable asset for higher education, employment, international collaboration and professional growth. The Centre provides students with opportunities to learn foreign languages through interactive, practical and technology-enabled approaches.
Our programmes focus on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, while also creating awareness of different cultures, traditions and professional practices. Through certificate courses, language clubs, workshops, conversation sessions and cultural activities, we encourage students to learn beyond the classroom and gain confidence in real-world communication.
I am confident that the Centre for Foreign Languages will play an important role in enhancing the global employability, confidence and international readiness of our students. I encourage every student to make use of these opportunities and develop language competencies that will open doors to new academic and professional possibilities.
Objectives
01
Provide students with opportunities to learn various foreign languages through structured courses, training programmes and academic activities.
02
Equip students with practical language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing to support effective communication.
03
Develop foreign language proficiency that helps students meet the expectations of multinational companies and international industries.
04
Enable students to communicate confidently and professionally with people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
05
Create awareness of the culture, traditions, professional practices and social etiquette associated with different countries and languages.
06
Prepare students to become confident, culturally sensitive and globally competent professionals capable of working effectively in international environments.
Languages
Each language runs alongside the B.E./B.Tech timetable and steps up a level every academic year, so a student who starts in the first year finishes with an internationally recognised proficiency certificate before graduation.
日本語 · Nihongo
The Centre offers Japanese language learning opportunities that help students develop practical communication skills and gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture, workplace practices and professional etiquette.
The programme enhances communication skills, cultural awareness, employability and confidence in interacting with Japanese-speaking individuals and organisations. It supports students interested in opportunities involving Japanese industries, higher education, internships, research and international careers.
Students progressively develop their proficiency and, where appropriate, prepare for recognised examinations such as the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).

Student testimonial
Shoban Babu joined the Centre’s Japanese track in his first year and worked up through the levels alongside his Electronics and Communication Engineering degree. He now joins PERSOL CROSS Technology, Japan as a Circuit Design Engineer. Here he is, in his own words, on what the Centre changed for him.

Programme 03
Joint sessions bring learners from different departments and year groups into the same room for conversation practice, group activities and peer learning — the part of language training that a timetable alone cannot deliver.
The Centre
The Centre draws a coordinator from every engineering department and from Science & Humanities, so language elective demand, timetables and certification slots stay aligned with each department’s academic calendar.
